About Kitchen and Bathroom Granite Countertops
In addition to its gorgeous appearance, granite countertops are very heat resistant, difficult to chip or scratch, and are stain resistant when properly sealed. Granite, quarried from the mountains of Brazil, Italy, the U.S., India, and dozens of other countries around the world, is one of the most popular natural stones on the market. Available in a striking array of colors, granite’s durability and longevity make it ideal for kitchen countertops and other heavily used surfaces, including table tops and floors.
You may notice “fissures”, which are small hairline veins, throughout your granite countertop surface. There may also be irregular mineral concentrations that vary in size and color. These are called “inclusions”. Some granite slabs may contain small holes called “pits”, which are normal and should be expected. They are all part of the distinctive and unique beauty of Granite. Because of such characteristics, no two pieces of granite, such as the pieces that make up a kitchen countertop or bathroom vanity countertop, will be identical. Also remember that “high movement” granite can have significant pattern variation and make it easier to observe where pieces are seamed together.
Cleaning Granite Countertops
To clean Granite, a damp cloth or paper towel is usually all you need. To clean up sticky spots, a little mild liquid dishwashing detergent can help. Clean up spills as soon as you can.
Be sure that you never use ANY of the following on your granite countertops:
- Oil based cleaners
- Acidic cleaners, including cleaners with citrus or vinegar
- Bathroom cleaners
- Abrasive cleaners
- Ammonia or bleach
